Losing my native language

I’ve been living in the United States for over 14 years and I’ve been losing my ability to communicate in Korean.

Sadly, it makes sense. I don’t know that many Koreans here so I can go on for days and weeks without speaking it.

I’m having a harder time remembering words in Korean, and my mom has mentioned that I say things a little funny sometimes.

But my Korean heritage is an important part of me and I want my future kids to know about it, even if they don’t get to experience growing up in Korea.

One thing I started about half a year ago was to start reading a web novel with RIDI.

The chapters are short and I only get to read one chapter a day for free. I browsed around to find a story I found interesting (this one is a fantasy), so that I’d come back for it every day.

I think it’s helping me retain Korean a little better. Whatever works, right? And whatever that’s entertaining enough to keep going at it.
